Got our assignment.
And there it was! THE HATCH!
What year did that mean we were in?
Alright, so for all of you LOST fans out there, we actually weren’t on the island, but we did go caving in the thermal caves right outside Budapest! On our nearly 3 hour tour, we plunged 50 m deep into the limestone mountains. We climbed, crawled, and wiggled our way through the cracks and fissures.
Our tour guide was hilarious and tried to give us so many life lessons with his Hungarian accent. He told so many stories of his caving experience all over the world and was dying to get us all into the sport of caving. Although I don’t think I have a future with this sport, it was an unreal experience- and much more strenuous than we thought it was going to be. We had to get into some very awkward positions to get through the very small holes, one of which was called the birthing hole. There was clay covering the limestone and there were some really cool rock formations underground- an elephant, a cow, a theater, and a sandwich to name a few.
Since all Heather brought to Budapest were her boots, Julia kindly let her borrow her fresh Nike kicks. So this picture is for you, Julia! You look so fresh, Heather.
You all should try caving! If we survived it, you can too.
